11. David John PORTER (Mary SCOFFIELD2, John1) was born on March 7, 1861 in Elderslie Twp, Bruce Co, Ontario, Canada,10 died on December 19, 1921 in Saugeen Twp, Bruce Co, Ontario, Canada12 aged 60, and was buried in Paisley Cemetery, Bruce Co, Ontario, Canada.
Very Sudden Death
Mr. D.J. Porter dropped dead in the bush
The community was startled on Monday afternoon by a report of the unexpected passing away of a well known farmer of con. 1 Saugeen, Mr. David J. Porter. The deceased had gone out to the bush early in the afternoon with his son Ernest, and they were engaged in cutting wood for some time before Mr. Porter was stricken with heart failure, and expired without a cry or struggle. His fall to the ground was not noticed by Ernest who at the time was facing another direction, and did not see his father until he turned toward him and noticed him lying prostrate.
The late Mr. Porter was in his 61st year. He was born on the 2nd con. of Elderslie, where he lived until he was about 17 years of age. His father, the late John Porter then moved to Keppel Tp. David continued to work at farming, and after his marriage went on the Dornan Farm in Arran Tp. Seventeen years ago he purchased the Arch. Rankin farm on con 1, Saugeen, and lived there since. He is survived by his wife nee Miss Louisa Dornan, of Arran with their two sons and one daughter - Ernest at home, Ross J. of Paisley and Ruby at home. The deceased was a Methodist in religion, and Liberal in politics. In farming he has been enterprising, progressive and successful. Personally he was well liked and had a large cirle of warm friends, who regret his demise and sympathize with the bereaved wife and family. The funeral takes place this Wednesday afternoon to Paisley Cemetery.
