Descendants of William HAY and Cecilia NAEVE


William and Cecilia were married in Monikie Parish, Forfarshire (Angus), Scotland in 1794. They apparently had at least seven chikdren, all born in Monikie Parish. In 1841 they lived at Downie Muir in Monikie Parish and William worked as a Hand Loom Weaver.
One of their children, Francis married Isabella GIBSON in 1830 in Carmyllie Parish, Forfarshire. At least four children were born to them in Monikie Parish and in 1840 the family emigrated to the New World apparently settling in Fenelon Twp, Victoria Co, Ontario, Canada where they were living in 1851. By 1861 they had relocated to Bruce County where they settled on Lot 5, Concession 21 of Greenock Township.
Both Francis and Isabella are buried in the Paisley Cemetery.

Today this farm is called the Old Downie Farm it lies directly east of Newbigging in Monikie Parish
and may well have beem Downie Muir.


Allan HAY was born and raised on the 12th of Bruce Twp and is a direct descendant of the captioned couple. He married Heather Jean CAMERON*. See Allan's Pedigree Chart
