West Wind to East Bay, Pioneer Families of East Bay, Cape Breton, and Surrounding Areas, by A. J. MacMillan, Pages 35-36
Another Currie family to be considered here is that of ALASDAIR Currie. ( I am indebted to the well-known photographer, Owen Fitzgerald, of Sydney, for access to his research on this family.) Alasdair was born in South Uist around the year 1750. He came to Prince Edward Island, perhaps with the Glenaladale group in 1772, or during the following decade. The fact that at least one of the children, Patrick Archibald, was born in P.E.I. around 1782 seems to preclude the 1791 emmigration for his arrival. He was married to Isabell Fitzgerald, daughter of the Duke of Leinster**, and they had at least three children: DUNCAN; PATRICK ARCHIBALD; and LAUCHLIN. They came to East Bay (Cape Breton) between 1812 and 1814.
**Further research shows the Duke Leinster had 13 children and Isabell does not appear to be one of them.
