OBBITUARY FOR RETA MAY METCALFE-TANNER

The tragic death of a young wife and mother which saddened the entire community occurred Friday last, when Mrs. Clifford Tanner died in Owen Sound General and Marine Hospital.
Mrs. Tanner had been in serious health since last September, when she underwent and operation, and had been in the hospital since February 5. Born on the 14th con. of Greenock on May 30, 1909, she was the former Reta May Metcalfe, daughter of the late Wilson Metcalfe and Mrs. Catherine Cruickshank Metcalfe of London. She attended s.s. #7 Greenock and later Paisley Continuation School, where she was popular with the entire student body. In 1938 she was married to Clifford Tanner. They made their home in Elderslie on lot 27, con B. Surviving besides her husband are one daughter, Gail, and one son, Jack; also her mother in London, and two sisters, (Jennie) Mrs. George Gregg, 16th con., Greenock, and (Pearl) Mrs. Clifford Chapin, Brantford, and a brother, Willard, 14th con, Greenock.
Mrs. Tanner was a member of Knox United Church, Paisley, and an active worker in the Elora Road North Women's Institute.
Many relatives and friends gathered to pay their last tribute at the funeral services in Knox United Church on Monday afternoon. Dr. A.E. Cresswell conducted the service. Pallbearers were Lawrence Tanner, Donald Armstrong, Harvey Grant, Revis MacKay, Harvey Stewart and James Flett. Burial took place in Paisley Cemetery.

Reta married John "Clifford" TANNER, son of Alfred Edward TANNER and Elizabeth ANDERSON, on June 11, 1938 in Salem Elderslie Twp, Bruce Co, Ontario, Canada. Clifford was born on November 4, 1905, died on September 2, 1961 in Owen Sound, Grey Co, Ontario, Canada aged 55, and was buried in Paisley Cemetery, Bruce Co, Ontario, Canada. He was usually called Clifford.

Marriage Notes: WEDDING ANNOUNCEMENT, TANNER-METCALFE
A pretty wedding of much interest to Paisley residents was quietly solemnized at the cottage of Rev. A.H. Wilson, Salem, on Saturday, June 11th, at 10 o'clock am, when Reta May, the daughter of Mrs. Metcalfe and the late Wilson Metcalfe became the bride of Mr. John Clifford Tanner, son of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Tanner, Elderslie Twp. The ceremony was performed by Rev. Mr. Wilson, pastor of Westminster Presbyterian Church. The bride was smartly attired in a green suit, with white hat and green and white accessories, and wore a corsage of yellow roses and mauve sweetpeas. Mr. and Mrs. E.D. Elwes were attendants. Following the ceremony the party returned to the home of Mr. and Mrs. Elwes, where a bridal luncheon was served, after which the happy couple left on a motor trip to points in the United States.
The bride, who had been on the Bruce Telephone office staff here, and the groom, who for many years was the ace catcher for the Paisley Cardinals intermediate baseball team, have a host of friends in the community, all of whom join in extending sincerest whishes for a long and happy married life.

Jennie Rosella Gregg, the former Jennie Metcalf died at Victoria Hospital, London, on Tuesday, May 21, 1991. She was 80.
She was married in 1934 and lived in Greenock Twp. before moving to Paisley. She was a member of the United Church, UCW, Women's Institute and Paisley Agricultural Society.
Dear mother of Ann (Mrs. Jim Rowley), Wilson and his wife Beth, Lawrence and his wife Mary, and Allen and his friend Marguerite Wattenburg, all of Paisley. Also survived by 13 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren; one sister Pearl Chapin of Brantford; and one brother, Willard Metcalf of Greenock Twp. She was predeceased by her husband George Gregg and one sister Reta Tanner.
Friends were received at the W. Kent Milroy Funeral Home, Paisley, until Friday when the funeral service was conducted at the chapel. Interment in Douglas Hill Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Steven Gregg, Bevin Gregg, Barry Gregg, Todd Gregg, Martin Gregg and Andy Rowley. Flowerbearers were Paul Gregg, Steve Pitt, Ken McNeill and Ben Shoemaker.

Jennie married George Edward Weir GREGG, son of George Henry GREGG and Elizabeth Ann MAJURY, on September 5, 1934 in Salem Elderslie Twp, Bruce Co, Ontario, Canada. George was born on February 4, 1909 in Brant Twp, Bruce Co, Ontario, Canada, died on April 23, 1986 in Paisley, Bruce Co, Ontario, Canada aged 77, and was buried in Douglas Hill Cemetery Eden Grove, Bruce Co, Ontario, Canada.

The marriage of Miss Pearl Cavell Metcalfe, daughter of Mrs. Metcalfe and the late Wilson Metcalfe, to Mr. Howard Alvin McMullen, son of Mr. and Mrs. Wm. J. McMullen, 4th con., Huron Twp., took place on Saturday, May 4th, at the home of Mr. and Mrs. J.G. MacKay of Lovat.
Promptly at the hour of 12 o'clock noon the bride, given in marriage by her uncle, Mr. J.G. MacKay, entered the living room to the strains of Lohengrin's wedding march, played by Miss Gwen Forrester of Paisley, and took her place beneath a beautifully decorated arch. Rev. A.H. Wilson of Eden Mills, the former pastor of Westminster Presbyterian Church, Paisley, performed the ceremony in the presence of about fourty-five guests.
The bride was charming in a gown of turquoise blue sheer over taffeta with shirred bolero, and wore a corsage of Joanna Hill roses and bouvardia. After signing the register and best whishes were extended the bride led the way to the dining room where a dainty luncheon was served. Following the luncheon the bride and groom left amid showers of rice and confetti on a motor trip to London, Niagara Falls, and other points, the bride travelling in a beige coat with cranberry dress, hat, shoes and accessories. On their return they will reside on con 4, Huron Twp.
