George A. MacRitchie, age 57, of Toledo, passed away Thursday, August 18, 2005, at St. Luke's Hospital after a year long fight with cancer. George graduated from the University of Toledo with a Bachelor of Science and Engineering Degree where he was also a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity. In 1970, he was certified as a professional engineer and went to work at Toledo Edison serving in a variety of industrial engineering functions. In 1980, George went to work with Owens Corning Fiberglas as a quality assurance engineer where he worked until 1989. He then joined Owens Community College where he served as chairman and later dean of industrial and quality engineering technologies. In 1997, he became Sr. quality engineer at Benchmark Technologies, and he was currently working at Dana Corporation in Maumee as a quality engineer. During his career, he received many awards and distinctions. He was an ASQ Certified Quality Engineer since 1986; an ASQ Certified Reliability Engineer since 1988; a Registered Professional Engineer-Ohio 1976; Phi Theta Kappa, Owens Community College 1996, and the Toulouse Award, Toledo Section, ASQ 1998. He was a senior member of the American Society for Quality Control, a senior member of the Society of Manufacturing Engineers, and a member of the Technical Society of Toledo. As a 20 year veteran in the Ohio Air National Guard, "Lieutenant Colonel MacRitchie" served a majority of his time with the 180th Tactical Fighter Wing in Swanton, where he was an Avionics Officer and Squadron Maintenance Control Officer. He later worked directly for the Adjutant General in Columbus as the state's aircraft maintenance coordinator. George was also very active in scouting. In his youth, he was a Camp Miakonda staff member, Brotherhood Member of the Order of the Arrow, and an Eagle Scout from Troop 70. As an adult, he established and was the first Scoutmaster of Boy Scout Troop 114 at St. Joan of Arc Parish, where he was also awarded the Boy Scout Bronze Pelican Award. He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Mary (Seger); children, Petty Officer, USCG Robert of San Diego, CA, Dr. Ellen (Mike) Jewett of Copley, OH, and Michael of Chicago, IL; his mother, Catherine of Sylvania; brothers, John (Josephine) of Troy, OH, Murray (Bette) of Dunwoody, GA, and Gordon (Teri) of Toledo; sister, Ann (Jeff) Martin of Maumee, and mother-in-law, Mary (Timar) Seger, as well as loving nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Innis J. MacRitchie.
