Descendants of John DARROCH & Mary McMILLAN

John and Mary where married in 1827 on Colonsay Isalnd, Argyllshire. John apparently passed away before 1841 and Mary was left to raise their family of four girls on her own. In 1860 their daughter Catherine left Colonsay with her five year old son, John. aboard the Ocean Monarch, arriving in New York on August 4. From here she found her way to Bruce County, Ontario, Canada where several other families from Colonsay had settled in Saugeen and Elderslie Townships about ten years earlier.

The village of Riskbuie Raisg Buidhe on the island of Colonsay, Argyllshire, Scotland as it looks
today. The village was apparently abandoned circa1930 as folks moved closer to the harbour.
