Descendants of Richard PEARCE & Elizabeth "Betsy" FRENCH

Richard and Betsy were married in Cornwall, about 1815. They emigrated to Upper Canada with their family, settling first in York County about 1840. In 1842 the relocated to Lot 1, Con 1 of Sullivan Twp, Grey Co, Ontario.
Their son Thomas worked as a chainman for Mr McPHILIPS' who surveyed Elderslie Township and as a result Thomas took up Lot 5, Con. 6 at Lockerby, in Elderslie Twp. He married, Miss Isabella McINTYRE in 1856, the young couple walked all the way to Southampton so that the ceremony might be performed by a Presbyterian clergyman. The first school in the Elderslie Twp. was opened in 1855 at Lockerby, and was taught by Miss Isabella McINTYRE.
While son William stayed on the home farm in Sukkivan the rest of the family moved to Elderslie.
Edward married Anna Bell
HEMBROFF and settled on Lot 6, Con7 at Lockerby. Mary married Thomas HEMBROFF and lived on Lot 3, Con. 7. John D. who married Mary WALKER settled on Lot 19, Con A just north of the village of Paisley.
