1. Captain John G. MURPHY, son of Sir Lawrence MURPHY, was born in 1780 in , Wexford, Leinster, Ireland and died about 1845 in , , Upper Canada aged about 65.

Captain John G Murphy came to Canada from Wexford, Ireland 1819 arriving in Kingston, Ontario. He came with his wife Deborah (Davis) and their children: Lawrence, John, Richard, Davis, Thomas, Jane, and Margaret.
Captain John was the son of Laurence Murphy or Goodmurphy and an officer in the 54th Regiment of the Foot. He was given a grant of land in Canada and put on half-pay. He arrived in Kingston to take up his grant. Captain John left his oldest son William in Ireland (with grandparents). Lawrence the second child was apprenticed to a shoemaker in Kingston (for a term of 3 years). The parents and other children moved on to Wellington, Ontario (then called Smokeville - after Daniel Reynolds - referred to by the local Indians as Old Smoke).
John and Deborah remained in Wellington for some years. As the children grew up and married, they spread out through the nearby counties. Deborah was living in Percy Twp near Warkworth, Ontario when she passed away obo 1848 - 1850. No record on John's passing.
Two sons were born in Canada: Gilbert then Francis.
Beleive G in John G Murphy stood for GOOD. Captain John used John G Murphy in 1833 in Wellington, then next year he used John Good Murphy.
Above information, for the most part was derived from a Family Genealogy done by Eliza Goodmurphy Cooper, daughter of Lawrence Goodmurphy and granddaughter of Captain John.
