1. Samuel J. FENTON was born on April 1, 1835 in , , , Ireland1,2,3 and died on August 31, 1915 in Mooresburg Sullivan Twp, Grey Co, Ontario, Canada3 aged 80.
Obituary in the Chesley Enterprise for Samuel FENTON:
One of Sullivan's Grand Old Men passed to his reward on Aug.31,1915 in his 81st year in the person of Mr Samuel Fenton Sr who had been a resident of this locality for many years. Deceased was a native of Ireland but came to Canada when a young man & lived for a time at Brampton. He moved to Sullivan 57 years ago, where he resided till the time of his death. He was a man of great physical strength & had enjoyed good health until the infirmities of old age crept on him. Since January he had been unable to perform his usual farm duties & gradually declined in strength till called home. He was able to recognize members of his family almost to the last. Mr Fenton was an ardent Orangeman. He joined that society about 60 years ago when he was a collier in Scotland where he lived 5 years. For 50 years he had been a drummer at 12th of July celebrations. Politically he was a staunch Conservative. A kind-hearted, outspoken man, highly esteemed in the community as a man of honour. Mr. Fenton was a member of the Mooresburg Methodist Church. The funeral to Chesley Cemetery on Sept.2nd was largely attended considering the busy harvest season. His 6 stalwart sons acted as pallbearers & in addition to the service by Rev Mr. Millen, a short Orange service was held at his grave. There are left to mourn the departure of this grand old pioneer father, a widow, 6 sons & 4 daughters. The sons are Wm, .James & David of Elderslie; Samuel Jr, Wilson & John of Sullivan. The daughters are Mrs D.J. Mitchell, Con 2 Sullivan; Mrs Wm Elder of Peabody; Mrs Andrew Hepburn, Elmwood & Margaret at home. Twins predeceased him.
