Alexander ROBERTSON was born in Scotland about 1825 and came to Canada in the late 40's and settled on Lots 6 & 7, Consession 2, of Greenock Township, Bruce County. He married Jane Donalsdon about abt 1852. They had seven children before Jane passed away on April 21 1870. Shortly after his wife's death Alexander, his brother George and another Scotsman built a raft and followed the lakes and rivers to Manitoba. (The timing indicates that Aleander either went with or followed his future son-in-law Thomas LESLIE who in turn went west with Colonel Wolsley to take part in the Riel Rebellion. More on this in the Journal under Thomas LESLIE)
By 1881 he had settled in Cartier, the Provencher District of Manitoba and had three additional children by his new wife, Mary. Most of Alexander's first family had relocated to Manitoba except for Elizabeth who had already married Patrick Ritchie and stayed in Greenock Township. Alex died on May 13th 1892 at Sanford Manitoba where he had bought a farm.
