Late P. McRorie - Passed Away Last Wednesday After Illness of Five Weeks.
A Fine Citizen Gone
Mr. Peter McRorie of this town passed away on Dec. 14th at the age of 52 years, 2 months. He had been seriously ill for five weeks with heart trouble brought on by inflammatory rheumatism ten years ago. Mr. McRorie was born on the same lot on which he died, but not in the same house. He was a man of high character and was very popular in town. He served a couple of terms in the town council a little over 20 years ago. Mr. McRorie had been a member of the Canadian Order of Chosen Friends ever since that society was organized in town and, until prevented by failing health, had been one of the best workers in the Oddfellows Lodge. He had been caretaker of Geneva Church for serveral years and had been identified with the Presbyterian Church since his boyhood days. He is the last of a family of three.
Deceased leaves to mourn the loss of a kind and thoughtful husband and father, a widow and family of four sons and two daughters: Charlie who is teaching near Welland, Helen, Roy, Arnold(sp Harold), Peter and Ferona at home. There were floral offerings on his coffin from the family, the Chesley Chair Co. in which he had been a faithful employee for several years, J. Monk and Ezra Spring, Mrs. Robert Lochead and family, Mrs E. Wedendorf and family, Hanover: Geneva Church and the I.O.O.F. The funeral took place place to Chesley Cemetery on December 16th and was largely attended. Ther service was taken by his Pastor, Rev. Wm. Smith, assisted by Rev. N.H. Reibling, and the Oddfellows's beautiful memorial ritual was carried out in the mausoleum.
