2. John McRORIE (John1) was born on July 2, 1831 in Fowlis Wester, , Perth, Scotland4,5 and died in April 1910 in Chesley, Bruce Co, Ontario, Canada aged 78.
John seems to have returned to Scotland before November 1857 and married Margaret McPherson. Passenger lists show the couple returning to Canada in 1858, but the 1861 Census of Scotland shows them back in Scotland with son John apparently born in Blackford, Perthshire, Scotland in 1858. This leads me to believe they immediately returned to Scotland. I believe they had al least five children born to them in Scotland. I am assuming Margaret died sometime after Mary's birth in 1867 and John returned to Canada with his family. The 1871 census of Canada shows John with four (John, Margaret, Annie and Mary) of his children and now married to Flora mcDougall .

"The Late John McRorie
Another of the old landmarks crossed over the great divide on Tuesday in the person of John McRorie. Deceased was a native of Scotland. He was a member of the volunteer force in that country at the time of the Crimean War, took part in the Civil War in the United States and was present at the battle of Gettysburg. After his arrival in Canada he resided for several years on the 4th con, Elderslie, and then moved to Chesley. He was a man of iron constitution but has been crippled with rheumatism and troubled with dropsy for a few past years. He was in his 79th year. By his first wife he had a family of 2 and by his second wife who predeceased him 3 years, he leaves 2 sons and a daughter: Peter in Chesley, Mrs Thomas Agnew of Bentinck and John in Guelph. The funeral takes place at 3 p. m. to day to Chesley cemetery."

John McRorie, half-brother of our townsman, Peter McRorie, dropped dead on Dec. 14th while coming through the fields behind Chas. Allen of 2nd con. Eld, with whom he had been working. John was an honorable, hardworking man and is well spoken of by everybody with whom he was employed.

John McRorie's marriage transcript notes his parents as John and Lily McRorie. I cannot find a couple by this name so have made a "leap of faith" and attached John to the McRorie family as the illigitimate son of Lilly McRorie.
Lily may have worked as a domestic in London, Ontario. There is a death transcript for a Lily McRorie, born abt 1846 and died April 16, 1889 in London.
