James and Margaret were both born in Scotland but likely married in Lanark Co, Ontario in abt 1830. James worked as a miller in Lanark in 1851 and shorlty thereafter the family moved to Paisley where he continued to work as a miller. In the late 1860's they relocated to a farm in Saugeen Township and by 1881 James and Margaret had moved out west to Manitoba.
