Francis ASH, born in Ireland, was working in Markham Twp Ontario, Canada. in 1851. In 1853 he married Mary McKNIGHT a widower with a daughter. The lived for awhile in Normanby Township, Ontario and by 1861 they had settled on Lot 14, Concession 12, of Sullivan Township where they raised a family of six.
