Descendants of Colonel William GARLAND

William GARLAND of Coolceullin, Ireland, a colonel in Burgoyne's British army, fought near Saratoga, 1777, was held prisoner until 1781, when he returned to England. He had three sons who came to America:
Richard GARLAND settled in Newfoundland; some of his descendants migrated to the U.S. Thomas GARLAND settled in Carleton County, Ontario, near Ottawa.
John GARLAND m. Ellen (Eleanor) Butler and settled in Lanark County, Ontario. John had been born in 1775 in Ireland and d. 3 December 1845 in Canada. They had 15 children, and many of their descendants fanned out through North America.
