Obituary for John ROUMEY (1879-1950)

A well known and highly esteemed citizen passed away at his residence in Eden Grove on Sunday, Sept. 24th, in the person of John Roumey in his 72nd year after an illness of four years.
Mr. Roumey was born on the 12th Con. of Greenock, a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Roumey. He spent the early years of his life in the Pinkerton district, and in 1905 married Rebecca Alexander. Soon after their marriage they settled on the 12th Con. of Brant where he farmed until about four years ago when he retired to live in Eden Grove.
The news of the passing of the late Mr. Roumey was received with genuine regret and sorrow. He had become regarded as a man of sterling character and one who was always willing to help his neighbor or friend. The funeral, held Wednesday afternoon, was conducted by the Rev. Summerell, with interment in Douglas Hill cemetery. The many floral tributes and the large attendance testified to the high esteem in which he was held in the community.
Besides his sorrowing widow he is survived by four sisters: (Louisa) Mrs. Jonathan Metcalfe, Cargill; (Bessie) Mrs. George Sawyer, Wiseton, Sask; (Lila) Mrs. Colin More, Regent, Man; (Ida) Mrs. Elmer Gregg, Pinkerton, Ont; and three brothers: Sam, Hartney, Man; William, Cargill, Ont; and Harvey, California. Mr. Roumey was predeceased by two sisters, (Frances) Mrs. Nelson Flett and (Sadie) Mrs. Alex Cameron.
The pallbearers were: Messers. Wilmer Alexander, Wilbert Alexander, Leslie Pilgrim, Melville Reid, Vane Roumey and Elmer Gregg.
The flower bearers were: N. Ferris, Jack Watson, H. Driscoll, M. Butchart, Jack Butchart, Geo. Hodgkinson, Stanley Garland, Harold Christie, William Sims, William Alexander, Clifford Majury, Ned Kerry, Gordon Scott and Wilbert Watson.
