The marriage of Mr. Jonathan Metcalfe of the 14th con, Greenock, and Miss Louisa Roumey was quietly solemnized at the residence of the bride's father, Mr. Joseph Roumey, of the 12th con, Greenock, on Wednesday, Dec. 28th, at 8 pm, in the presence of the near relatives of the contracting parties. The ceremony was performed by Rev. J. McKinnon, M.A., B.D., of Pinkerton. The bride looked very pretty in a dress of cream cashmere, and was unattended. Her little sister Ida, dressed in pink, acted as flower girl. After the ceremony was over, the happy young couple received the congratulations of their friends, and all proceeded to the dining room to partake of a sumptuous repast. Many pretty and useful presents were received by the bride. Their many friends wish them much happiness and prosperity.

A quiet but pretty wedding took place at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Jos. Roumey, of the 19th con, Greenock, on Wednesday, Aug 31st, when their second daughter, Eliza Jane, was united in marriage to Mr. George A. Sawyer, also of Greenock. About 8 pm guests to the number of fourty having assembled, the bride, looking charming in a white silk gown, and groom took their places under a beautiful arch of evergreens on the verandah. The ceremony was performed by Rev. F.O. Nichol, while little Ida Roumey, sister of the~ bride acted as flower girl. The bride received many costly and useful presents, among them a beautiful couch from Mr. and Mrs. J.J. Donnelly. The young couple will reside on the 10th of Greenock, and will be followed by the best whishes of their many friends.

Friends gathered at the Sheraton-Cavalier, Saskatoon to honour the retirement of Miss Laura (Tommy) Sawyer, Public Health Nurse, with the Saskatoon Rural Health Region. Miss Sawyer was born in Bruce County, Ontario. Her family moved to Manitoba, then to Wiseton, Saskatchewan where she completed her high school. Tommy obtained Diploma in Nursing from the Saskatoon City Hospital in 1935. She was employed by the Kerrobert Union Hospital as a general duty nurse. In May 1942 she joined the Saskatchewan Public Health Department with headquarters in Meadow Lake. She obtained her Diploma in Public Health Nursing at the University of Toronto in 1950. She resumed her work with the North Battleford Health Region, transferring to Kindersley in 1953. With formation of the Rosetown Health Region, she was transferred to Rosetown. She joined the Saskatoon Rural Health Region on January 15, 1960. Tommy will be remembered in all areas, not only for the quality of her professional work but also for her dedication to community health. Her many friends wish her a long and happy retirement.

A resident of the Walkerton district for most of his life, William Roumey passed away in the Bruce County Hospital at Walkerton on Wednesday. He was in his 76th year. His wife who predeceased him was the former Maud Parker and the couple farmed at Eden Grove where Mr. Roumey also lived after his retirement. One son also predeceased him.
The late Mr. Roumey is survived by three sisters, Mrs. George Sawyer of Saskatchewan, Mrs. Colin More of Manitoba and Mrs Ida Gregg of Pinkerton. One grandson also survives. Mr. Roumey was a member of the Eden Grove United Church.

A quiet but pretty wedding took place at "The Maples", Mr. Jos. Roumey's residence, last Wednesday evening, Sept. 22, at S o'clock, when their daughter Miss Frances, was married to Mr. J. Nelson Flett in the presence of the immediate relatives. The marriage took place under an arch of evergreens in the parlor, and was performed by Rev. J. McKinnon of Pinkerton. The bride who was given away by her father was attired in a beautiful gown of white silk mull, trimmed with lace and satin ribbon, and wore the conventional wedding veil and orange blossoms and carried a bouquet of roses and maiden hair fern. She was attended by her sister Miss Sadie, who wore a dress of pale pink mull, and wore the groom's favor, a handsome gold brooch.
Mr. Ernest Webb ably supported the groom who presented him with a pearl tie pin. The groom's gift to the bride was a gold watch. After congratulations, the bridal party partook of a dainty supper. At 8 o'clock Mr. and Mrs. Roumey held a reception and over a hundred guests enjoyed themselves immensely until a late hour. The bride's presents were very beautiful and costly.

The death of Mrs. Nelson Flett, which occurred Saturday morning, has caused much genuine grief in the community. The deceased, whose maiden name was Miss Frances Roumey, was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Los. Roumey, at whose home the death occurred. She was aged 22 years and 10 months. Just nineteen months ago she was married to Mr. Nelson Flett, who with an infant daughter survives to mourn a loving wife and mother. The deceased had been ill for several months and endured much suffering with true Christian patience. Much has been taken from this husband and little one, sweet ties have been severed, but much is left. The Christians hope and fadeless memories still are theirs. Her parents, five sisters and four brothers also survive. The funeral on Tuesday afternoon to Purdy's Cemetery was largely attended, and was conducted by Rev. Thomas Wilson of Walkerton. Mr. Harvey Roumey of Detroit attended his sister's funeral.

Obituary for J. Nelson FLETT

On Saturday, September 19th, J. Nelson Flett passed away suddenly at his home on Con. 14, Greenock Twp., after a long period of ill health. Mr. Flett was the only child of the late William Flett and his wife Mary Thom, and was sixty-six years of age. His entire life was spent on the 14th of Greenock, with exception of a few years residence in Pinkerton. He was twice married, his first wife being Frances Roumey, who passed away shortly after the birth of their daughter, Vivian, now Mrs. Wellington Ferris of Glammis. Later he married Jean MacKay, who survives with a son, James, on the home farm on the 14th of Greenock, and a daughter, Mrs. Harold Alexander of Kitchener.
Mr. Flett was highly esteemed among his neighbors, being a man of industry integrity and ability. During his lifetime he had been a kindly and thoughtful neighbor, generous in his desire to help others. His passing is a matter of great regret, and the sympathy of the entire community goes out to those who mourn the loss of a husband and father. The funeral, one of the largest seen in the district, was held from his late residence on Monday afternoon. In the absence of his pastor, the Rev. W.H. Sommerell, the service was conducted by a former pastor and family friend, the Rev. W.M. Lee of Schomberg, who spoke of his contact with Mr. Flett, and the many hours of enjoyment he had experienced with him and his family.

Word was received by Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Roumey on Saturday evening that their daughter Sadie had died in Cincinnati, near where she resided. The deceased was very well known here as she spent the greater part of her life at her home near the village. A few years ago she went to Toronto and there married Mr. Alex Cameron. She was in her 26th year and her early death will be deeply regretted. The sympathy of the whole community goes out to the young husband, to the surviving mother and father, sisters and brothers. The remains arrived here on Monday and the funeral took place Tuesday afternoon conducted by Rev. Mr. Gale.

Mr. James Elmer Gregg, eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. J. Amsey Gregg of Cargill, passed away at the Christie St. Military Hospital, Toronto, on Friday of last week, at the early age of 30 years and 2 months. Elmer, who was well known in Walkerton, where he was two years ago assistant at the garage of the Dominion Well Supply Co. here, was born on a farm north of Eden Grove. Holding an important position in a general store in Arthur, where the remuneration was attractive, when the great European war broke out, he promptly answered the urgent call of the King and country, going over with the 71st Batt. He was shortly afterwards attached and went to France with the famous 42nd Highlanders, where he took part in some fine engagements with the enemy, notably the first battle of the Somme, where of his entire battalion only 200 survived to answer the roll call. Though he was spared, yet the enemy poured lead into his head and shoulders, and a piece of shrapnel penetrated and lodged in his spine, which he carried with him to the grave. Not only did he inhale poisonous gas, but ate berries unconsciously which had been infected by the fumes in the air. This caused a disorder of the stomach, which became more acute as time went on, and eventually developed to such a stage that six months ago he entered the Military Hospital, where the end came prematurely to one with an excellent war record in the prime of manhood. It will thus be seen that his death can be attributed indirectly, like that of so many of his comrades, to his devotion to the land he loved, the flag of which he assisted in keeping unsullied and untarnished through the horrors of war. Though somewhat reserved in manner, he was nevertheless popular, and a wide circle of friends now grieve his passing. Scarcely two years ago he was married to Miss Ida Roumey of Pinkerton, who survives him, also his parents, one brother, John, and a sister, Ruby, at home. The funeral, which took place from his parents' home in Cargill on Monday afternoon to Douglas Hill cemetery, was a particularly large and impressive one. Seldom has such a tribute of respect been paid to a departed friend as that accorded to the subject of this sketch at the last sad rites at the house and grave. The floral offerings included many tributes from patients in the institution, who for months saw the life of a comrade-in-arms slowly ebb away. The service was in charge of Rev. Mr. Lee of Pinkerton, while the burial was under the auspices of the Masonic Order, and brought together members from all the surrounding towns. The following brethren officiated as pallbearers: Messers. John Keyes, Harold Young, Walter Chisholm, Roy Brown, John Garland and William Telford.
