Paisley Advocate, August, 1930.
The Grim Reaper has removed another active and widely known figure in the everyday life of the gore of Greenock Township in the person of William Thomas Reid who passed away at his home on Sunday last. He had been ailing for some time from a general breakdown caused largely by stomach trouble but had been bedfast for one week prior to his death.
Born in the township of King in the County of York very nearly 79 years ago the deceased came with his parents, the late Mr. and Mrs. John Reid to Brant Township. They settled on what is now the Kerry farm but four years later removed to Lot 9, Con. 13, Greenock Township. When the subject of this sketch had reached manhood, he took up farming, renting until about 30 years ago when he purchased the farm of the late Mr. Hay, Lot 6, Con. 15, where his death occurred. Besides his farm work, the late Mr. Reid carried out many contracts and jobs in the locality in the moving of buildings at which he became an expert.
He married Augusta Goodhand who died about 1904. Two sons and three daughters by this union are living: John; Edward in Alberta; Mrs. Jas. Keyes of Greenock; Mrs. Henry Millar in Kentucky; Mrs. Alex. Morland of Bruce Township. From his second marriage to Maggie Keyes of Greenock, two daughters and two sons are living: Mrs. K. McKinnon of Kincardine Township; George I.; Neil and Mary at home. The funeral was held from the family residence on Tuesday afternoon, the services being conducted by Rev. Mr. Blackwell of the Anglican Church. Interment was made at Douglas Hill Cemetery. Although farmers are very busy, a large number attended the funeral.

"KILLED IN FLANDERS" - Obituary for Lieut. Ernest REID
Reported missing after a raid on a German crater about the middle of September last, awarded the D S 0 for bravery during that raid, and eventually reported killed. This is the train of events that ended in an official notice received on Saturday last by Mr. and Mrs. Adam Reid of Pinkerton, which contained the brief intimation that their son Lieut. Ernest Reid had made the supreme sacrifice in behalf of the great cause for which so many Canadians are fighting in Western Europe. As the Lt-Col. of the 54th Battalion wrote when Lieut. Reid was found to be missing, the latter had returned to the Allies' trenches after the raid, but was seen to go back over the parapet, presumably in search of some men who had been left behind. In his last hours he had acted with such bravery as to win the D S 0 award.
Lieut. Reid was born at Pinkerton, attended the public school there, and then became a student at the Paisley Continuation School. After completing the courses here and at Normal School, he taught Pinkerton School for a term. Upon deciding to do his bit as a soldier he went to London Military School and qualified for the office of Lieutenant before enlisting and then took a commission in the 71st. The battalion went overseas in April. He was a stalwart young man of 23 years, mentally strong and morally clean, sociable and equable in temperament. His aims and aspirations in life were lofty and worthy ones, and these he has nobly and willingly sacrificed for the betterment of the world to those who ive after him.
The family have the sympathy of a wide circle of friends in the loss they have sustained by the death of their gallant son and brother. A memorial service in honor of the dead soldier will be held in the Presbyterian Church, Pinkerton, next Sunday afternoon.

Obituary column in the Paisley Advocate, April 23, 1903.
Death stalks about relentlessly, and this week his visitations have devolved upon us the sad duty of chronicling the passing away of the old, the middle aged and the young.
JOHN REID of the 14th concession of Greenock, who died on Sunday, was only sick one week with pneumonia. The disease affected the heart, which accounts for the sudden collapse. As he leaves a wife and nine children, the eldest but fifteen years of age, his death is attended with particularly sad circumstances that call forth the most genuine sympathy from the hearts of friends and acquaintances. The deceased was born in Brant Twp. but early in his life the family moved to Greenock Township and he succeeded to the homestead established in the latter township. Mrs. Reid was Mrs. Esther Keyes, daughter of Mr. William Keyes. The deceased a few months ago became a member of Court Auburn, C.O.F. and the funeral on Tuesday was conducted under the auspices of the Forestric brethren. The remains were interred in Purdy's cemetery. Deceased was a member of the Presbyterian Church and in politics was a conservative.
