THE
Dundas ALEXANDER |
| INTRODUCTION | Proceed directly to Descendant Journal |
The following is a history, in genealogy format, of the descendants of Dundas ALEXANDER , born abt. 1799 in Lanark, Scotland, and Elizabeth WILSON, born 1802 in Lanark, Scotland. After Dundas died Elizabeth immigrated to Canada in 1846 with her family and settled on Lot 23, Fifth Line, Eramosa Township, Wellington County, Ontario. She brought with her a family of six boys and one girl. Elizabeth had two sisters and one brother, Tom WILSON, here. One sister, Janet married a John MUTRIE and the other sister Margaret married William ARMSTRONG. The ALEXANDER family does not have a direct ancestral connection but has been included because so many of Elizabeth's descendants marry into the families that we have researched. In the following introduction I have indicated these connections inside brackets. The eldest son Andrew (1819-1909) married Olive BERNHARDT and they had two sons; Robert and Andrew Jr. Andrew married a second time to Elizabeth COLBORNE and their son James married Maggie MAJURY , daughter of Ed MAJURY and Eliza Jane WATSON , in 1877 ( see the William WATSON & Jane RITCHIE Family ). Andrew and Elizabeth 's second son William married Susan LAMB , daughter of William LAMB and Catherine TAYLOR , in 1909, ( see the Alexander LAMB & Elizabeth BARRON Family ). Andrew and Elizabeth relocated from Eramosa to Greenock Township and eventually moved to Neepawa , Manitoba . Second son John (1821 - 1907) married Isabella REA and stayed in Eramosa Township on Lot 22, Sixth Line. Their family was, Elizabeth, Isabel, Alexander, Thomas, John, Jane, Agnes and Margaret. Thomas married Hanna WATSON , daughter of William WATSON and Jane RICHARDSON , in 1867 ( see the James & Janet WATSON Family ). Robert, a stonemason, married Isabel FIDDIS and they lived on Lot 6, Con 8 of Nichol Township in Wellington County . They had two sons, James and William. Dundas and Elizabeth 's fourth son James (1832 - 1910) farmed on Lot 23, Fifth Line of Eramosa Township. "Uncle Jimmy" never married. William ALEXANDER (1833 - 1900) also settled in Bruce County near Eden Grove. In 1860 he married Rebecca WATSON and in 1866 they purchased Lot 31, Con A of Brant Township. Rebecca was the daughter of James and Janet WATSON , and an aunt to Hanna WATSON , previously mentioned. They had eleven children, Elizabeth, James, John, Robert, Janey, William, George, Janet, Andrew, Thomas and Rebecca. Of these children, son Robert's second wife was Annie MAJURY, a sister to Maggie MAJURY above ( see the William WATSON & Jane RITCHIE Family ). George who married Minnie ELPHICK had a daughter, Ida who married Fred WATSON , son of Robert WATSON and Elizabeth DAVISON ( see the Wm. WATSON & Jane RITCHIE Family or James DAVISON & Jane MORAN Family ). Janet married Andrew WATSON , son of Joseph WATSON and Sarah PORTER (see the Andrew WATSON & Nancy REID Family). Rebecca married John ROUMEY ; they lived in Eden Grove and never had a family. John was a son of Joseph ROUMEY and Mary Jane REID ( see the Philip & Margret RUMMIG Family or the John REID & Eliza Jane McCULLY Family ). George (1837 - 1872) married Elizabeth READ and lived in Pinkerton, Greenock Township . They had two sons and two daughters, James, William, Jane and Bessie. William married Annie GRANT and their daughter Ina married Wellington WILSON , son of James WILSON and Ellen HUTTON ( see the John WILSON & Frances KNEESHAW Family ). Jane married Charles GRUSCHOW ; their daughter Bessie married Dolph WILSON , son of Robert K. WILSON ( see the John WILSON & Frances KNEESHAW Family ), and Elizabeth "Bessie" ALEXANDER , fourth child of George and Elizabeth. Janet ALEXANDER (1844 - 1927) married James MUNRO and they lived on Lot 2, Con A of Elderslie on the Elora Road just south of Paisley . Their family was, Andrew, David, Jean, Margaret, James and George. The following pages show these families in more detail. Most of the detail, prior to 1949, was copied from the " ALEXANDER FAMILY ", a excellent family history compiled by the Alexander Reunion Committee in 1949. This genealogy is by no means complete and ultimately I hope to uncover more information about those ALEXANDERS that were related to the WATSONS, DAVISONS, LAMBS and WILSONS . Meanwhile I would be pleased to hear from all of those reading these pages that recognize errors or omissions or have additional information that could be used to update this family history. |
